Learn more about how to register, book and take your SQE exams
Securing your SQE exam dates is an important step as you embark on your SQE journey. The exams are exclusively administered by Kaplan on behalf of the SRA, and are offered several times a year.
Taking the SQE exams involves three steps:
The first step is registering with the SRA and Kaplan and opening your MySRA account. You’ll need a valid photo ID at this point (e.g. a passport, photo driving licence, or government-issued ID).
Once you’ve registered, and before you can choose your SQE exam date, you need to pre-book. This involves:
You’ll need to go through the pre-booking process for both SQE1 and SQE2 separately. You can only pre-book and book your SQE2 exam dates once you’ve passed SQE1 (unless you are exempt from SQE1).
The computer-based SQE1 exam takes place at a number of test centres around the world. The exam is delivered by Pearson VUE in conjunction with Kaplan. Once you’ve registered and pre-booked, you need to sign in to your SQE account online to view the assessment centres available to you.
Subject to availability, you may choose your preferred location and book your space. You’ll need to pay for both parts of SQE1 to Kaplan at the time you book your exam.
When you arrive at the assessment centre on your SQE exam date, your ID will be checked. You’ll have two half days of tests for SQE1, each split into two 153-minute sessions. There’s an hour break between each session.
Once you’ve passed SQE1 (or if you are exempt), follow the same process to pre-book, book and pay for your SQE2 exams. The SQE2 assessments run across five half-days (two for the oral part and three for the written part).
You’ll book your SQE2 oral assessments separately to your SQE2 written assessments. However, the payment for two assessments is made together on the SQE website.
The cost to take SQE1 is £1,798 (£899 for FLK1 and £899 for FLK2) and for SQE2 it is £2,766.
Kaplan offers SQE1 assessments twice a year, in January and July, at test centres in the UK and across the rest of the world.
SQE2 is offered four times a year in the UK (the written part is offered in several locations outside of the UK). This gives you a lot of flexibility to select your SQE2 exam dates at the time that best suits you.
It’s best to book early as places can be limited. You can check availability at a test centre using the “seat availability” section of the SQE website.

You’ll take your SQE2 written assessments at one of Pearson VUE’s test centres in the UK and internationally. The SRA will confirm the locations where the written part will be available when a booking window opens.
You will receive your SQE assessment results by email directly from Kaplan.
SQE1 results will be made available by Kaplan within 5-6 weeks after the SQE examination date, while SQE2 results become available within 14-18 weeks following the exams.
