Booking your SQE assessments with Kaplan

Follow the steps to register and take your SQE assessments

Signing up for the SQE

The SQE exams are administered by Kaplan as a sole provider, so you need to register with them to take your assessments. You then need to book your exam date with Pearson VUE, which runs the assessments itself.

Taking the SQE1 exam involves three steps:

  • Registration at the SQE website with the SRA and Kaplan
  • Pre-booking
  • Booking with Pearson VUE

Registering with Kaplan

The first step is registering with the SRA and Kaplan and opening your MySRA account. You’ll need a valid photo ID at this point (e.g. a passport, photo driving licence, or government-issued ID).

Pre-booking

Once you’ve registered, you need to pre-book. This involves:

  1. Completing a diversity survey (not mandatory).
  2. Telling the SRA about any SQE exemptions you might have.
  3. Requesting any reasonable adjustments you’ll require to sit your exams.

You’ll need to go through the pre-booking process for both SQE1 and SQE2 separately (you can only pre-book and book SQE2 once you’ve passed SQE1 (unless you are exempt from SQE1).

Booking your exam date – SQE1

The computer-based SQE1 exam takes place at a number of test centres around the world. The exam is delivered by Pearson VUE in conjunction with Kaplan. Once you’ve registered and pre-booked, you need to sign in to your SQE account online to view the assessment centres available to you. Choose your preferred location and book your space.

When you book your assessment date, you will need to pay for both parts of SQE1 to Kaplan.

When you arrive at your assessment, your ID will be checked. You’ll have two half days of tests for SQE1, each split into two 153-minute sessions. There’s an hour break between each session.

Booking your exam date – SQE2

Once you’ve passed SQE1, follow the same process to pre-book, book and pay for your SQE2 assessments.

SQE2 assessments run across five half-days (two for the oral part and three for the written part).
