Equality Information

Purpose

QLTS is committed to providing and sustaining an environment free from discrimination, bullying, harassment or victimisation, where all our staff and students are treated with respect and dignity. We aim to create a culture of diversity within our organisation, providing a dynamic working and learning environment, where all persons are valued for their contribution and individuality.

Scope

QLTS is an organisation operating in a local and international context. The policy is applicable to all our staff, students and applicants, wherever they are. We work to ensure that all our staff and students, as well as those who seek to apply to work or study with us or who have previously worked or studied with us, are treated fairly and are not subjected to unlawful discrimination.

Commitment to Equality and Diversity

We are committed to providing equality of opportunity for all, irrespective of:

  • age
  • disability
  • ethnicity (including race, colour and nationality)
  • gender (including gender reassignment, marital status, pregnancy or maternity)
  • religion, belief
  • sexual orientation (including civil partnership status)

We believe that excellence is achieved through recognising the value of every individual. We aim to create an environment that respects the diversity of our staff and students, enabling them to achieve their full potential and derive maximum benefit from their involvement in our activities.

We acknowledge the following basic rights for all our staff, students and applicants:

  • to be treated with respect and dignity
  • to be treated fairly and equally with regard to all procedures, studies and choices
  • to be encouraged to reach one’s full potential

Admission

QLTS welcomes applications from students irrespective of background, origin, or prior qualification, including individuals and groups of people from diverse cultural, ethnic, socio-economic and distinctive backgrounds.

Students with Disabilities

QLTS accommodates applications from disabled students and those with specific learning difficulties. We encourage existing students and new applicants to declare a disability or specific learning difficulty either upon application or at any time thereafter so that we can assist them to achieve their full potential in their study. Any such information provided to QLTS will be held in confidence and will be shared with the relevant staff only.

Reasonable Adjustments

QLTS will make reasonable adjustments when a disabled student or member of staff may be placed at a substantial disadvantage in comparison with a person who is not disabled. Examples of reasonable adjustments for students include making appropriate arrangements such as accommodating the needs of visually or hearing impaired students when using online content or videos, or the provision of additional tutor support to those deemed to be entitled to special testing arrangements by the assessment provider.

Similarly, QLTS will make reasonable adjustments for disabled employees or potential employees to ensure that they are not disadvantaged.

Complaints Handling

Any cases of harassment, discrimination, bullying or victimisation will be treated very seriously by QLTS. Any member of staff or students found guilty of unlawful discrimination or harassment will be subject to disciplinary action, including where appropriate, dismissal for gross misconduct. Staff, students or other parties who make a complaint of discrimination have the right to do so without fear of victimisation and QLTS will make every effort to ensure victimisation does not occur and that any complaints are dealt with promptly and fairly.

The equality policy is fully supported by the senior management of QLTS who will be happy to help with enquiries relating to discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation.

Monitoring

Our policy will be monitored and reviewed annually to ensure that equality and diversity is continually promoted in the workplace and among our students.
