As a qualified solicitor, you will have direct contact with clients to provide legal guidance and expertise in various areas of the law. You have numerous career paths and areas of the law in which to specialise after qualification, and selecting a route is a personal decision and preference.
Typically, securing you first role as a solicitor is competitive and will take determination and perseverance in order to be successful in the path you choose. You will also need to:
- be motivated
- commit to constantly learning and remain current and up-to-date
- have good analytical, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- practise commercial awareness
- demonstrate good written and oral communication skills
Building up experience over time will lead to continued growth and promotion in your chosen area of expertise, eventually leading to becoming a partner in private practice, manager of a legal department in a commercial firm, a judge or other rewarding role.
